01Who it's for

This is a big commitment. Here's who it fits.

Probably for you if

  • You're 18–25 and want your faith to be more than a Sunday thing.
  • You can clear 13 weeks, early September to early December.
  • You're willing to ask people for money. Most students fundraise the whole cost, and we help.
  • You can live with roommates and keep a full weekday schedule.

Probably not for you if

  • You want a gap year with no structure. Weekdays run about 8am to 5pm.
  • You need to keep a weekday job or stay enrolled in classes.
  • You can't leave the country. The overseas trip isn't optional.
  • You're not interested in worship, prayer, and the Bible. That's most of the day.

    Train in Nashville

    Eight weeks of the same weekly rhythm. Mornings are worship and teaching; afternoons are small groups and going out into the city.

    Small group, then the city. Six to eight students and a staff leader; then out in pairs to campuses and downtown.
    Mondays
    Monday Night. The weekly open gathering. Anyone can come, including you before you apply.

    A shared house. Other students of the same gender and a live-in staff member.

    Weekends are mostly yours.

    Go overseas

    About four weeks with a small team, working alongside a local church or organization that's already there. Not a tour, and not a solo mission.

    6–10 students, two staff. We place you on a team in October.

    A local church or group. You're helping their work, not starting your own.
    Days
    Morning prayer, then whatever the host needs. Kids' programs, practical help, visiting homes, telling people about Jesus.
    Home
    The team stays together. Wi-Fi most evenings; your family hears from the team leader weekly.

    Flights, housing, and food overseas are all inside $5,250.

04How students pay for it

Most students raise the whole amount from people who already know them. Here's the math.

How most students raise it

  1. List 40 people who know you. Family, church, coaches, your parents' friends, your boss. It takes 20 minutes and it's the step most people skip.
  2. Send each one a short letter or text. We give you the template. Ask for a specific amount.
  3. Follow up once, two weeks later. This is where most of the money comes in.
  4. Check in weekly with your coach. From acceptance until you fly.

Who runs this

FFX is run by Fire & Fragrance Nashville, the Nashville base of Fire & Fragrance, a movement of young adults who worship, pray, and share their faith. FFX is our training school (13 weeks), and our Nashville staff are the people your student will be with every day. [Confirm wording.]

Housing

A house in Nashville shared with other students of the same gender and a live-in staff member. Rent is part of the cost. Overseas, the team stays together with the local host.

Supervision

Two staff travel with every team of 6–10. Students go out in pairs or groups, never alone in an unfamiliar area. Staff are background-checked. [Confirm ratio and screening.]

Safety overseas

Every student has travel medical insurance. Locations are places we've sent teams before, with partners we know. No teams to countries under a U.S. travel advisory of Level 3 or higher. [Confirm policy wording.]

Staying in touch

Phones work in Nashville like anywhere. Overseas, students have Wi-Fi most evenings and team leaders send a family update at least weekly.

FFX ends in December. Then real life.

Most alumni go back to school or work. The point isn't that everyone moves overseas. It's that you go home knowing what you believe, with people who keep checking on you.

TimeWhat are the dates?

Sep 7, 2027 to Dec 3, 2027. Eight weeks in Nashville, then about four weeks overseas, then a few days back in Nashville to debrief. You need to be here for all of it.

CostHow much does it cost, and what does that cover?

$5,250 total. It covers your training, your housing in Nashville, and the whole overseas trip: flights, housing, and food. It doesn't cover food in Nashville (about $750), gas, or spending money. $500 of the total is a non-refundable deposit that holds your spot.

CostWhat if I can't afford it?

Almost nobody pays it out of pocket. Most students raise it from people they know, with a step-by-step guide and a coach who checks in weekly. You pay in three parts: the deposit at acceptance, the Nashville portion when you arrive, and the trip portion before you fly.

FaithDo I need to have my faith figured out?

No. You need to want to follow Jesus and be willing to learn. Most students arrive with more questions than answers.

LogisticsHow old do I need to be?

18 to 25 on the day we start. If you're 17 or over 25, email Alyssa. We look at each case.

TimeCan I work or take classes during FFX?

Not during the week. The schedule runs about 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, plus Monday Night. Some students pick up weekend shifts. You'll need to finish, pause, or defer school.

LogisticsDo I need a passport or a car?

Passport: yes, valid through at least June 2028. If you don't have one, apply now; it takes 6–8 weeks. Car: not required. Without one, you'll ride with housemates and chip in for gas.

LogisticsWhere will I live?

In a house in Nashville with other students of the same gender and a live-in staff member. Rent is included. You'll share a room.

LogisticsIs the overseas trip required?

Yes. The Nashville weeks and the trip are one program. You don't choose your location; we place you on a team.

AfterWhat happens when it's over?

You go home with a written next step: school, work, church, or missions. Alumni stay connected through a group chat and a yearly reunion, and some come back on staff.
